Set it up
- Open Settings, then Security center.
- Tap Two factor authentication.
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or enter the key by hand.
- Type the six digit code the app shows.
- Tap Turn on.
From then on, signing in asks for your email code and then a code from your authenticator.
Recovery codes
Kool gives you a set of recovery codes and tells you exactly why: save these somewhere safe, and each can be used once to sign in if you lose your authenticator. The security center shows how many you have left.
- Store them outside your phone. A password manager or a piece of paper both work.
- Tap New recovery codes to generate a fresh set. The old ones stop working immediately.
Always require it
There is a switch for Always require two factor authentication, which asks for the second factor on every sign in rather than only when something looks unusual.
Turning it off
Tap Turn off authenticator and confirm with a code. You will be asked for either an authenticator code or a recovery code, because that is the whole point of the feature.
